Fines & Fees
Fines
Fines are $0.25 per day (including days the library is closed) on all items, with a $10.00 maximum per item.
Lost and Damaged Items
If an item is lost or damaged to the extent that it is unusable, a patron pays the price indicated on the Library’s records.
The Library charges $10.00 for missing cases or chargers for library devices. For all other items, patrons pay the full price of the item as indicated on the Library’s records.
Patrons may keep a destroyed item if they pay for it.
Refunds for Lost Items
Patrons who return a lost item may receive a refund if the lost item is returned within one year of the due date. No refund will be given after one year from the due date.
Maximum Fine Debt & Collections
A patron with more than $10.00 in fines and fees on their library card account is blocked from using the card until the amount owed is lower than $10.00.
The Library forwards delinquent accounts that total $100.00 or more and are delinquent more than 30 days after the billing notice is sent to a collection agency. If the account is referred to the collection agency, the library cardholder must pay a $10.00 service fee in addition to the amount owed on the account.
Responsibility
The patron is responsible for everything checked out on their card and for any fines and fees incurred due to the use of their card by any person in possession of their library card. The patron is responsible for promptly reporting a lost card or any unauthorized use and giving notice of any change of address.
Waiver of Fines & Fees
Fines and fees may be waived due to an inadvertent error in library routines, an unexpected library closure, a natural disaster (fire, flood, earthquake, etc.), or upon the advice of the library director.
Interlibrary Loan
There is a $3.00 fee for items requested through Interlibrary Loan. This fee will be added to the patron's account when the item is received from the lending library and is due on the pickup of the item. If the item is not picked up, the patron still needs to pay the fee. Any other fees incurred by the interlibrary loan will be passed on to the patron.
Fines and Fees are established by Lake County Ordinance Number 2916 and Ordinance Number 3041 are amended by the Master Fee Schedule as detailed by Article XXVIII of the Lake County Code of Ordinances
